The petite phenotype (small colonies) in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae
is another mutation that causes abnormal aerobic respiration.
A small proportion of these mutants are caused by nuclear mutations,
but most have lost their mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and exhibits uniparentalinheritance.
