The TATA-box binding protein
(TBP)
and other proteins called TATA Associated Factors (TAFs) forms
a transcription complex called TFIID.
The TFIID complex provides a platform for RNA polymerase II (the enzyme that transcribes mRNAs and snRNAs) to bind to the promoter and begin transcription at a basal level.
