The  restriction enzyme EcoRI recognizes the
   palindromic nucleotide sequence GAATTC.

   Cleavage    of   DNA   at   this   sequence   produces   complementary
   single-stranded tails.

   These  complementary tails are "sticky ends" that can anneal with each
   other, even if the two fragments are from different sources.
