Transgenic  tobacco leaves (top
   and  left)  carry  an  antigen  of  the  hepatitis  B virus and can be
   identified  with  a stain that shows binding to antibodies against the
   antigen.

   Similar transgenic technology can be applied to crop plants to produce
   edible vaccines .
