For a population where the initial frequency of the D32 allele is 0.10, and 1% of the 1/1 (initially 0.81) and 1/D32 (initially 0.18) individuals will die of HIV AIDS, the fitness of the genotypes are: w1/1 = 0.99; w1/D32 = 0.99; wD32/D32 = 1.0. The CCR5-D32 allele frequency in the next generation is 0.100091, and it takes 100 generations for it to reach 0.11. However, changing the initial frequency to 0.20, and the fitness of recessive individuals to 0.75 results in an increase of the frequency of the CCR5-D32 allele to almost 1.0 in 40 generations.
