For a population where the initial frequency of the Δ32 allele is 0.10,
and 1% of the 1/1 (initially 0.81) and 1/Δ32 (initially 0.18) individuals will die of HIV AIDS,
the fitness of the genotypes are:
w1/1 = 0.99;
w1/Δ32 = 0.99;
wΔ32/Δ32 = 1.0.
The CCR5-Δ32 allele frequency in the next generation is 0.100091,
and it takes 100 generations for it to reach 0.11.
However, changing the initial frequency to 0.20, and the fitness of recessive individuals to 0.75
results in an increase of the frequency of the CCR5-Δ32 allele to almost 1.0 in 40 generations.
